September 1994: Kurt, der achtjährige Sohn von Sheriff Pat Baker, erschlägt auf brutalste Weise seine Mutter mit einem Baseball-Schläger und nimmt den Mord mit einer Videokamera auf. Die Behörden sind sich einig, dass Kurt den Rest seines Lebens in einer geschlossenen Anstalt verbringen muss. Doch 13 Jahre später bricht Kurt aus und richtet dabei ein Massaker unter dem Anstaltspersonal an. Sein Vater hat mittlerweile eine neue Familie gegründet, arbeitet aber weiterhin noch als Sheriff. Und nun beginnt für Baker ein grausamer Wettlauf mit der Zeit, denn seine Tochter Sara campt zusammen mit ein paar Freunden in genau dem Waldgebiet, in das Kurt geflohen ist. Der aufgestellten Suchmannschaft scheint der Killer immer einen Schritt voraus zu sein, denn die Männer können nur der Spur von Leichen folgen, die Kurt hinterlässt.
